09/04/2017,5.30pm,auckland,Auckland,"Concert Chamber, Auckland Town Hall",Viva Voce,The Boss,"No, not a reference to the recent Springsteen visit, but inspired by other contemporary events … of a more global nature. Here we look at the vexed topic of absolute and unbridled power – those who wield it and those (all the rest of us) who are affected by it. In music by the likes of Wilbye, Purcell, Vaughan Williams, Orbán, Pearsall, Rutter and Hamilton, and featuring Eric Whitacre’s spine-tingling Her sacred spirit soars, we pay due or reluctant homage to kings, queens, despots, dictators and demagogues. It’s going to be an amazing concert. Truly. Amazing. A perfect 10. We’re going to make a cappella great again!",John Rosser,Rowena Post,info@vivavoce.org.nz,www.vivavoce.org.nz

It’s Joby Talbot’s spellbinding, hour-long depiction in music of the famous Camino ‘walk’, that takes us from Roncesvalles in the Pyrenees to the legendary resting place of St James – Santiago de Compostela on the Spanish coast. Path of Miracles has been described as “a musical miracle” and even as the finest choral work of the 21st century thus far. A chance to experience it once more, or for the first time, in another lovely and appropriate venue.",John Rosser,Rowena Post,info@vivavoce.org.nz,www.vivavoce.org.nz
13/06/2017,9am,auckland,AUCKLAND,Auckland Town Hall,Various TBS choirs,The Big Sing Auckland Region,"The Big Sing (TBS) is a dynamic, national group-singing competition for secondary school students. Secondary Schools' Choral Festivals began in 1988 as a development of the vocal section of the Westpac Schools' Chamber Music Contest. From being a very small part of that contest, The Big Sing has grown into a major highlight of the secondary school music calendar each year. This year, more than 10,000 young people from over 250 schools are taking part in regional festivals nationwide, and the number continues to grow. This makes TBS one of the largest competitive events in the country.",Various,Shirley Harvey,shirley.harvey51@gmail.com,

In its 37-year history, the New Zealand Youth Choir has achieved iconic status in New Zealand and has won many accolades overseas. The choir won the supreme title of CHOIR OF THE WORLD in Wales in 1999, and last year the GRAND PRIX at IFAS 2016 in the Czech Republic. 03/09/2017,5.30pm,auckland,Auckland,"Concert Chamber, Auckland Town Hall",Viva Voce,Musical beasts and where to find them,"In fact, you’ll find them right here! We take the raw sounds of the world’s musical zoo (a cacophony of cackles, squawks, grunts and howls), filter them through such noted animal interpreters as Josquin, Weelkes, Janequin, Tchaikovsky, Hindemith, Barber, Tavener and of course the Beatles, and blend the result into a concert of concordant delight. Ola Gjeilo’s Unicornis captivatur is a highlight – a playful modern take on a mad mediaeval manuscript. It’s a beastly concert, but also quite heavenly.",John Rosser,Rowena Post,info@vivavoce.org.nz,www.vivavoce.org.nz

19/11/2017,5.30pm,auckland,Auckland,"Concert Chamber, Auckland Town Hall",Viva Voce,Family matters,"Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, rellies, the distant uncle no-one talks about – these are the stars of our final 2017 concert. Of course, it’s the relationships between them that interest us, be they happy and fulfilling or complicated and fraught. We’ll illustrate these through motets, madrigals, part-songs, folksong, spirituals, jazz and pop numbers, and in Carissimi’s beautiful early oratorio Jephte – for soloists, chorus and chamber organ – with its final, very moving lament. But don’t worry; we’ll send you away primed for the familial joys of Christmas! Somehow.",John Rosser,Rowena Post,info@vivavoce.org.nz,www.vivavoce.org.nz
